Oezbekistan heeft zijn alfabet recentelijk herzien. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev heeft de wet die de overstap naar het Latijnse alfabet mogelijk maakt ondertekend. Het alfabet bestaat nu uit 28 letters plus één aanhalingstekens. Vier combinaties worden tot enkele letters: O' wordt omgezet in Ö, G' wordt omgezet in Ğ, Sh wordt omgezet in Ş, Ch wordt omgezet in Ç. De combinatie Ng wordt volledig afgeschaft. Saida Mirziyoyeva, die de hervorming sinds december 2023 heeft voorangeroepen, noemt het een correctie van een jarenlange historische fout.
